New Vanity

A fresh, updated look for her master and hall bathrooms and decks was the goal of this home remodel.  The homeowner, a frequent traveler, stays in fabulous hotels and wanted her own home to have the same spa-like luxury that she experiences when she travels.

A few must-haves on the homeowners’ list…a fix for a leaking master bath shower and better master bedroom closet organization.

The scope of work for the project was extensive and included:

Master Bathroom: Removing a fireplace wall, installing a custom closet system and adding built-in drawers.

Laundry room: New cabinets and flooring.

Guest room: A window seat.

Interior and Exterior: New hardwood floors and paint throughout the second floor and new decks and planter outside.

The homeowner was especially excited about the master bathroom that featured a Robern medicine cabinet, an Amba heated towel rack, feature wall with tile, and wall mounted fixtures. Another unique design feature is the bench spanning the glass from the shower into the bathroom. Careful attention needed to be paid to the structural viability of this. Another fun design element was the use of horizontal balusters on the deck rails and screens to incorporate a more updated and modern style.

In the end we were able to create a respite within the home. The homeowner wanted a spa-like environment in her master bath that had bold, yet at the same time restrained statement pieces which were accomplished with the tile feature wall as well as the wall mounted fixtures and shower bench. The hall bath also had modern touches with a white straight-stacked subway tile paired with a gray grout and contemporary fixtures. The home features a modern style throughout so the renovations help tie the entire space together beautifully.

Master Suite Addition & Renovation – Washington, DC Thu, 07 Feb 2013 02:45:30 +0000 http://www.signature-home.net/?p=2157 Master Suite Addition in DCBetter Homes and Gardens: “A Light-filled Bath. Adding skylights revealed unattractive, thin ceiling trusses. They were boxed and finished to match the cabinets, and now they stand out with a presence. Vertical rows of glass block allow sunlight to enter from an adjacent bedroom. Muted colors were chosen to create a quiet, peaceful atmosphere for bathers.”

When the homeowners first contacted SVA Construction Corp Design Build, their needs were many. They wanted an updated, spacious, plush master suite that was more in tune with the rest of their home. Cramped closets directly off the bathroom created traffic jams in the morning and the lack of floor space to accommodate oversized furniture in the bedroom meant this master bedroom was no retreat. Adding a fireplace, providing their teenage daughter with more privacy and creating an open feel were key goals of the project.

The homeowners allowed their daughter to move into another unused bedroom, which enabled SVA Construction Corp to utilize the daughter’s old bedroom to create the new master suite. SVA Construction Corp added light and interest to the space by exposing and decoratively treating the trusses, as well as installing three skylights. The master bathroom was transformed into a spacious, functional, retreat: a large vanity with two sinks and a make-up area, as well as a separate tub and shower enhanced by a curved, glass block wall. The new closet, which SVA Construction Corp repositioned in the daughter’s former bedroom, provided ample dressing and closet space. The addition of a fireplace and a full-light door leading to their private deck added the final luxurious touches that made this master bedroom a true master suite.
