A Home Renovation Garage Extension in Bethesda MD

Case Study of a 26’x22’ Garage extension: brick; cedar shake roof; cathedral ceiling; heat; new driveway

Here is the homeowner’s recommendation to Angie’s List:

As someone involved in the financing of large commercial buildings and knowing how some contractors fail to deliver what they promise, I was very careful in making certain that I selected the right contractor. The project that I was bidding out was the expansion of my 2-car garage to a 4-car heated detached garage.  After interviewing several contractors and checking out their references and work product, I signed with SVA Construction Corp.  Even then, I was still somewhat apprehensive.  Well, my mind was quickly put at ease when I saw how professionally they performed.

The renovation involved the taking off and the construction of a new roof, the knocking down of the garage back wall (the entire garage is brick) as well as the front section and portions of the side walls.  New concrete was poured in the front and back forming a 45 foot long garage.  The ceiling was raised to approximately 13 feet to accommodate a car lift and an attic was created with a drop down ladder for storing car parts.  The entire garage was fully insulated, drywall put up, new windows installed, fully painted and a high volume gas heater installed.

As I live in a development with a home owners association, they needed to approve the plans. SVA Construction Corp did an excellent job of walking the HOA through the plans and keeping them up to date on the progress.  One of the things that the HOA wanted was that the new brick match, as closely as possible, the old brick which was also the same as the house.  As the house was over 20-years old that might have been a problem.  However, SVA Construction Corp was able to find brick that closely matched the existing brick.  Furthermore, they were able to save much of the old brick to reuse in the new garage.

It could not have gone any better.  Workers showed up when they were scheduled to show up. The quality of their work was one of the best that I have experienced.  They workers were very conscientious, friendly, knew what they were doing and worked very hard at their assignment.  I was very, very pleased and satisfied with each worker and trade that worked on my garage.  I know this may be hard to believe for some, but I have absolutely no complaints about SVA Construction Corp Design and Build.  I would definitely use them again in the future.
